The V20 Interchangeable Driver/Retractable Nose System Patent Pending
For Maximum Productivity on a Wide Range of Nail Types and Sizes using New Reconnx Technology!
The V20 is actually three tools in one. To handle the widest possible range of nails, Reconnx has engineered the V20 to accept interchangeable driver/nose sets. Reconnx research found that by matching driver diameter more closely to nail diameter, a Nail Kicker could deliver more power to the nail. Thus 3 nose bore diameters have been selected for maximum efficiency in the most common denailing applications over a broad range of industries: 168" (4.27 mm), .216" (5.49 mm), and .330 (8.38 mm).
The nose size selected for a given project should be the smallest one that fits loosely over the nail shank. Although a particular nose/driver set-up will probably be useful for the duration of a given project, the noses and drivers interchange quickly. Each nose has a matching driver which is easily removed by unscrewing 4 screws from the back of the tool body. A 4mm driver bit is included in the case to change-out the driver efficiently - about the length of time it takes to make a careful adjustment on a table saw.
Reconnx' tests also showed that nails are displaced more forcefully if the driver can chase the nail well into the wood. To do that, the driver has to project beyond the end of the nose, posing a risk of injury or damage to objects it shouldn't be contacting. Therefore, the nose of the V20 is spring-loaded, providing full protection and allowing the driver to project up to a maximum of ¾" (19 mm)*, but only when the tool is pressed hard against the board. So, unless depressed, the nose protects anyone or anything nearby from accidental contact with the driver, and it keeps the driver from leaving an imprint on the board during denailing..
Three limits can be set for nose retraction using the thumbscrew on the upper back of the nose: 0" (no retraction), 5/16" (half way), and up to 3/4" (full length)*.
- At 0", the driver will not leave an imprint when you press the nose against the wood.
- At 3/8", the driver will project forward similar to the former V1 and V2, for operators used to those configurations.
- *At 3/4", maximum projection for the DN40 only. The driver can chase a particularly stubborn nail, or nail heads can be driven through wood 3/4" or less in thickness, such as sheathing, siding, or pallet deck boards. In either case, the boards can be lifted away easily with no damage except for holes the size of the nail heads.Maximum projection for the DN50 and the DN80 is 5/8".
In addition, locking the nose at a specific retracted position makes the tool useful for other applications such as setting nail heads 1/4" below the surface of flooring or recessing pallet deck nails.
NOTE: The retraction shoud never be fixed at a position greater than 3/8" except in carefully controlled industrial settings.
